BREAKING NEWS: Fmr Prez Jerry John Rawlings is Dead

The information available to Msoft Ghana indicates that former President Jerry John Rawlings has passed on.
He was 73years.

He is said to have died Thursday morning at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Jerry John Rawlings (June 22, 1947 - November 12, 2020) [1] was a Ghanaian president, military officer, and politician who led the country from 1981 to 2001, and briefly in 1989. He led the military junta until 1992 when he served as Ghana's democratically elected president for two terms.

Rawlings came to power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant in the Ghana Air Force after a coup in 1979. Earlier, he led a failed coup attempt against the ruling military government on May 15, 1979, just five weeks before the democratic deadline. The election was to be held. After handing over power to a civilian government, he regained control of the country on 31 December 1981 as chairman of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC).

In 1992, Rawlings resigned from the military, founded the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and became the first president of the Fourth Republic. He was re-elected in 1996 for another four years. After two terms in office, bounded by Ghana's constitution, Rawlings backed his vice-president, John Atta Mills, as the 2000 presidential candidate. Rawlings served as the African Union's ambassador to Somalia. He died in November 2020 at the age of 73 and was given a state funeral.
